This genre of photography sees the photographer explore the interiors of built spaces – with the primary parameters of form, colour and light. Each beam, each column, each wall, the floor and the ceiling – all come together in a massive celebration. Focusing on the details as well as colours and textures enhances the viewers’ experience of the space. The house becomes a home; with the elements and accoutrements and the spirit that the family infuses in it, it is important to get not just the quality of the space; but that intangible component on camera.
Offices, factories and retail outlets all have their specific characteristics and need to be photographed in different light conditions – depending on the colour schemes, design style and location. Probably the most challenging among the various types of interior photography, hotels, restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars and lounges rely largely on lighting for the effect and mood desired in the given space.
